What Is Scar Treatment?

Many people experience scars on their complexion that serve as a remembrance of the past. Scarring is generally caused by surgery, injuries, or acne marks (often appearing pitted or sunken). No matter the reason or type of scar, the skilled team at Canyon View Ear, Nose & Throat can help diminish its appearance using high-end technology by Opus Plasma® or Harmony® XL PRO by Alma. Throughout our nonsurgical procedure with the Opus Plasma, radiofrequency and plasma heat will be delivered into deep layers of the dermis to increase collagen and elastin creation and resurface your skin, all as you relax in the treatment chair. Scar revision with the Harmony XL PRO can help with just one or multiple scars, regardless of the scar's cause or its location on your body. The scar reduction treatment at our Cedar City, UT facility can help you achieve a smoother look while also helping you feel more confident. Set up a consultation with our board-certified otolaryngologist and surgeon, Dr. Robert D. Pearson, to discover more regarding scar reduction procedures for your unique goals.

What to Expect From Scar Treatment

While no procedure has been developed to make scars go away permanently, laser treatments can significantly reduce the appearance of scars or blemishes to where they become hardly noticeable. Overall, these minimally invasive treatments will soften the scar tissue and resurface the skin. Everyone's skin issues are different so some patients may need a higher number of sessions than others; however, the majority of patients will normally need to undergo 4 – 6 laser scar treatments to obtain the best possible benefits of this procedure. After the procedure, the treated area will change gradually, resulting in smoother, clearer skin.

Dr. Pearson made me feel heard. He was patient, kind and thorough. I would highly recommend his servies.

I went to a serenity sleep study based on a recommendation from my cardiologist, I told them I sleep just fine and do not need a machine, but I let him hook me up to all the wires and slept in the lab. After two sleep study appointments I received a report stating I have sleep apnea!!! That is not what I want to hear; but I decided if it will help my heart health, I will give it a try . So I got the BiPAP machine and have been using it and trying for the best score I can get every night. I have been bringing it when we travel. The premature ventricular contractions I was having have gone from excessive to normal and I wake up feeling healthy now! I have less issues of nodding off! What a blessing to be treated for problems I was ignorant of and be healthier because of the wonderful health care professionals from Intermountain Health and Serenity Sleep!!!

I’ve had severe post operative nosebleeds for 2 months and couldn’t get help from the surgeon (SLC) who caused it or the ENT office in St. George. They kept blowing me off so I called Dr. P in Cedar City. His office told me to drive right up and they would see me. Despite a full lobby, they squeezed me in and he diagnosed my issue in about 5 minutes, fixed it and sent me on my way. I’m absolutely impressed and grateful to Dr. P and staff for taking the time to care about a patient. I’d been gaslighted for months by the surgeon and the ENT in St. George and was so frustrated. I will be driving to Cedar City for any ENT needs from now on and will recommend this office to everyone!!

About Us
How soon after an injury or surgery can I start scar treatment?

For most people, it's best to wait until the wound has fully healed before beginning scar treatments. Typically, this means waiting until any stitches are out, the skin is no longer open, and there's no more scabbing. Once the skin has fully closed and any risk of infection is gone, you can start thinking about scar treatments. Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best time based on the specific nature of your scar.

Will my scar completely disappear with treatment?

Most scar treatments focus on reducing the visibility of a scar, but completely removing a scar is often impossible. Many people notice a softer, lighter appearance, which helps make the scar less noticeable, but it's important to keep expectations realistic. Some scars may fade significantly, while others may require more consistent treatment to achieve satisfying results.

How can I make sure my scar doesn't return after treatment?

Once your scar has faded with treatment, maintaining your results often means being cautious with sun exposure, as UV rays can darken scars. Protecting the area with sunscreen and keeping it moisturized can help keep the scar looking its best. Some people also benefit from the continued application of recommended scar creams to maintain a soft and smooth appearance.
